Deployment frequency in Jira
Jira Cloud, versions and Jira Software reports.
Deployment frequency is how often a team puts a change into production. This page says how to count it in Jira, then how Changeline shows it with the releases that went into it.
What Jira does by itself
Jira Software’s Deployment frequency report, under a space’s Reports, counts deployments a connected CI/CD tool sends to Jira, mapped to a Production environment. If your pipeline does not send them, or the environment is not mapped, the report is empty.
Without a pipeline, the record is the space’s Releases page. Each version there is Released or not, and a released one has a release date. To count by hand, filter to Released, count the versions whose date falls in the period, and divide by the days: 14 releases in 90 days is about one a week. Do it per space, then add the spaces up.
What Changeline does
Changeline is our app. It counts each version marked Released with a release date in the period as a deployment, for a space’s own tab or for the spaces, saved filter or JQL search you pick under Apps › Changeline. The figure says it as a rate, deployments a day when there is one or more a day, else a week, else a month: 3.2 a week, with 14 releases in 90 days under it and a lozenge for better or worse than the days before.
The Trend tab shows a row a week for 30 and 90 days, a month for 180 and 365, with a chart above it, of deployments until you pick another measure with the Chart chip. The Releases tab lists each release. A released version with no release date is not counted and is named, so you can date it.
A team that keeps no versions can count work items that reach Done instead: a Jira admin chooses once for the site. Changeline only reads Jira and changes nothing in it.
See What counts as a deployment for why it does not read CI/CD data, and Lead time for changes in Jira for the next measure. Back to Changeline.
