Trace a chain with the map

Use the map when a row says an epic is held up and you need to see by what.

Open the map

Press Map on a row of the risk board, or Show dependency map in a work item’s Blockline panel.

Read the map

The map draws one epic’s chain from left to right: the work items it waits on upstream on the left, the epic on the right. Solid lines mean “waits on”, dashed lines “part of”. Every node shows its key, summary, date and the risk it brings to the epic, with a short cause: “At risk · 6 days late”, “Watch · not started”, “OK · on track”. A node further upstream shows the risk it brings to the work item it blocks. Its line says how old the map is (“Map built 6 min ago”), apart from the panel’s own age. So the map agrees with the panel’s Waiting on list: a work item that is on time itself but makes the epic late reads At risk. The path that ends latest is drawn in blue. Hover a node for the full reason; click it, or Tab to it and press Enter, to open the work item.

The dependency map of STOR-1, Holiday checkout, At risk, 6 days late, at the right. Its stories STOR-4, STOR-5 and STOR-6 are in the middle and what they wait on to the left: PAYC-3 Refund API At risk, 6 days late, DATA-2 Watch, no date, and MAPP-4 OK, on track, and further left DATA-4 Warehouse export, Watch, no assignee. The path through PAYC-3 and STOR-4 is blue, the one that ends latest.
