Questions
What buyers ask before they install, how a report counts, and what an admin controls.
Before you install
Does our data leave Jira?
No. Inside Jira, no servers, read-only. Logline runs on Atlassian Forge, reads Jira as you and writes nothing back. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Do people have to log time differently?
No. Logline is a reporting-only app over Jira’s native worklogs: no timers, no approvals, no new fields. People keep logging time the way they do today, with Jira’s own Log work or any app that writes Jira worklogs, and Logline reads those worklogs.
Does Logline watch what people do?
No. It reads only the worklogs people write in Jira themselves: no timers, no screen capture, nothing recorded while they work. An admin can also show each person only their own worklogs, under Logline settings › Who sees whose worklogs.
We log time in Tempo. Does Logline see those hours?
It sees the hours, but not who logged them. Timesheets by Tempo writes each worklog to Jira under its own app account and replaces the comment with its own text, so in Logline those hours show under Timesheets by Tempo, without the comment. Time logged with Jira’s own Log work shows under the person, as usual. Checked on 7 October 2026 with Tempo’s Forge app.
Our worklog report is a Connect app. Can Logline replace it?
It is built to. Logline runs on Forge and mirrors the views a Connect worklog report offers: a timesheet grouped by a field, a daily, weekly or monthly split, fixed and rolling date ranges, worklogs as rows with their comments, a work ratio column, grouping by Jira group, saved and shared reports, and export to Excel and CSV.
To move, install Logline, rebuild each saved report once (period, rows, columns, people) and share it the way the old one was shared. Both apps can run side by side while you compare totals.
What does it cost?
Logline is free for sites with up to 10 Jira users, with every feature. Above that it is billed per user by Atlassian, at a rate that falls as the site grows, after a 30-day free trial; the Pricing tab of the app’s Atlassian Marketplace listing gives the exact cost for your site.
How it counts
Does it work in team-managed and company-managed spaces (projects)?
Yes, both, and in service management spaces too. A report covers every space you can see, and the same report is a Logline tab in every space, limited to that space.
Which day does a worklog count on?
The day it started, in the report’s time zone. By default that is the time zone of the person viewing, from their Jira profile; a report or the site settings can use each author’s own time zone instead. Every report names the time zone it counts in under its total, and its How this is counted link spells out the rule.
Can it show billable hours and amounts?
Yes. Jira worklogs have no billable flag, so a Jira admin picks one rule in Logline settings: work items with a label, work items whose select, checkbox or labels field holds chosen values, or work items matching a JQL query. Every report then shows billable hours next to the total.
Add hourly rates, a default and rates per space or per person, and each report also shows the amount: a space’s rate first, then the person’s, then the default. Everyone who can open a report sees its amounts.
Can I export a report to Excel?
Yes. Download Excel and Download CSV take what is on screen. The Worklogs view goes out exactly as shown, after the filter and the sort; the Timesheet goes out as a flat list a spreadsheet can add up and pivot, one line per row with the row above it named beside it, then the totals line. Hours are numbers in decimal hours, under headers that end in (h), and dates are YYYY-MM-DD. The files are built in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.
Is there a size limit?
Yes. A report reads at most 10,000 work items and 50,000 worklogs. Over that, Logline says so and asks for a shorter period or a smaller scope; it never shows a partial total. A big report is read in steps, with a progress bar, each step well inside Forge’s time limit for one call.
Privacy and admin
Can people see work items they could not open?
No. Logline reads Jira as the person viewing, so Jira applies that person’s own permissions, worklogs restricted to a group or role included, and each person sees only the work items, worklogs and comments they could open themselves. Snapshots are kept per person, so one person’s report is never shown to another.
Why can two people see different totals for the same report?
A shared report always runs as the person viewing it, so Jira’s permissions decide which worklogs each viewer sees. Two people can therefore see different totals for the same report, and the report says so.
Does it write anything to Jira?
No. Logline only reads. It has no write permission, so it cannot create, change or delete a worklog, a work item or a setting in Jira.
Where is my data stored?
In Forge storage hosted by Atlassian: the site’s settings, saved reports, when each person last opened each report, the site’s field list, kept for an hour, and report snapshots, kept per person, served for at most 10 minutes and deleted by Forge storage a minute after that. Saved reports, settings and last-opened times stay until deleted or the app is uninstalled. No data leaves Atlassian.
What can a Jira admin change?
Under Jira settings › Apps › Logline settings, for the whole site: the time zone a worklog’s day is counted in, the first day of the week, the working-day length and the working days, the hours format, who may share reports, which worklogs count as billable, and the hourly rates. Reports use the new settings the next time they are opened.
Finding it and getting help
Where do I find it in Jira?
Under Apps › Logline, and in a Logline tab in every space. Jira keeps the tab under More when the tab bar is full. On a work item, it is the Logline group in the Details column.
What if it doesn’t do what we need?
Ask support first: it may already be a setting. If it is another app, tell us. When other teams need it too, we build it.
