HelpDeployment rework rate

Deployment rework rate

Deployment rework rate is the share of deployments that ship a fix for a failure of an earlier deployment. It is DORA’s fifth measure. Changeline shows it as a line under the tabs, not as one of the four keys. This page says where it shows and how it is counted.

Where it shows

Under the tabs, a grey line says the rate and what it counts, such as:

Deployment rework rate 12.5%: 1 of 8 releases ships a fix for a failure of an earlier release, under Rework in Deployments

The Releases table on the Deployments tab has a Rework column. Each row lists the failures that release fixes, as keys, so the line can be checked row by row. The downloads carry the same column, on the Releases sheet. Where a Jira admin counts deployments as work items reaching Done, the table is named Deployments and each row is a work item that reached Done.

It is not in the charts, the Overview’s weeks or the Spaces tab, and the dashboard gadget does not show it, because it is not one of the four keys.

How it is counted

A deployment is rework when it ships a fix for a failure of an earlier deployment. Changeline reads the Fix versions of each failure. A release named there is rework when the failure points at an earlier release, by its Affects versions or a link to a work item of that release. A failure that points at the same release it is fixed in is not rework.

The rate is the rework deployments out of all deployments in the period, such as 2 of 25 releases. In Done mode it is the work items that reached Done and fix an earlier failure, out of all the work items that reached Done.

Rework is counted only for failures Changeline can see, so a fix nobody named in Fix versions is not counted. The rule is set in Settings, with the failure types, the same as the change fail rate.

For how the other keys are counted, see The four keys. For the bug and version steps that make a failure and its fix, see Log a bug against a release.
