Release a version

Lesson 1 of 4

Changeline counts a deployment as a released version: a version marked Released, with a release date. This lesson makes one. The example is the Checkout space, CHK, and its version Checkout 1.6.

Add the version

  1. Open the Releases page of your space. Here that is CHK, at https://your-site.atlassian.net/projects/CHK/versions, with your space’s key in place of CHK.

  2. Press Create version, and give it a name, here Checkout 1.6.

  3. Set its Release date to the day it ships.

Mark it released

  1. When the version ships, press Release on it. Jira asks for the release date: keep the day it shipped.

  2. The version now reads Released. Changeline counts it on its release date, in the period that day falls in.

If you don’t see it

If there is no Create version button, you lack permission to manage versions in that space. A space admin gives it on the space’s permissions page, at https://your-site.atlassian.net/plugins/servlet/project-config/CHK/permissions, with your space’s key in place of CHK.

A version released with no release date is not counted. It is named in the amber box above the tabs, so you can give it a date.

If your team keeps no versions, a deployment can be a work item reaching Done instead. A Jira admin picks it in Settings. See What counts as a deployment.

What you have now

A released version with a release date, which Changeline counts as a deployment. Next you log a bug against it, so the deployment can have a failure.
