The space tab
Every space has a Sumline tab beside the space’s own tabs. It rolls up the space’s epics and initiatives, and every work item under them.
What the tab shows
The Sumline tab sits beside the space’s own tabs, or in the left sidebar of a service desk space. It has one row per epic or initiative in the space that is open or was done in the last 90 days, with Work, Priority, Points (done / total), a done / total column for each number field an admin added, Assignee, Status, Original estimate (done / total), Logged, Remaining, % by estimate, % by work item count (all levels), Work items and Warnings. The rows come in Rank order, the backlog’s order.
Every row with work items under it starts with a chevron. Open it to see those work items, indented under the row, each with its own figures and warnings. Filter by space, status, assignee, sprint, priority and type, choose what % complete is based on, sort by any column, and download the rows as Excel or CSV.
Over the filters, a line counts the work items in the rows on screen: how many in all, to do, in progress and done, every level, the same count as the Work items column. The line under it names the parents and the work items under them, such as 3 parents in SLC · 16 work items under them. Then Open in work item search opens the rows and every work item under them, subtasks included, in Jira’s work item search; where a table is too big for that, the link says it opens the rows and their children. Parents done more than 90 days ago are not rows; when a space has any, a link in the same line, such as See 3 hidden parents done over 90 days ago, opens them in Jira’s work item search.
The filters come first: Warnings shows only the rows with a warning. Then, on the same line while there is room, the view options: what % complete is based on, the sort and its direction, and the grouping. Every choice that is applied is shaded, the ones the table opens with included, so you can see at a glance what shapes the rows. Then comes Columns, which hides the columns you do not need and turns on Rank, which starts off: each row’s place in the backlog. Reset columns puts back the default, Rank hidden. The downloads keep every column. While any filter is set, Clear filters is the row’s last part: it puts every filter back, your sort and grouping kept. The table’s first line, Total, adds up every row on screen, an epic inside its initiative counted once.
Group by gathers the rows by assignee, priority, status, type, space (across spaces), sprint, fix version or team: each row’s Team field, or the one the work items directly under it share when it has none, “No team” last. A grouping that does not apply to the rows on screen stays in the menu, greyed, and hovering it says why, such as “Every row here is one work type” or “This site has no Team field”. A shaded line over each group adds it up: points, time, both percentages and work items. A row inside another row of its group is counted once; see How the numbers are calculated.
Hover a column’s header for what its figures are, such as “Done / total story points”.
The row of buttons at the table’s right end has three: Copy link, Download Excel and Download CSV. Copy link copies the page’s address with everything you picked: filters, sort, grouping, hidden columns and the rows you opened. Whoever opens it sees the same view, with what Jira lets them see.
