Plan unscheduled work
Work with no dates and no sprint is Unscheduled: Workline never guesses it into a week. When you want it placed, Workline can suggest the dates.
Open the dialog
On a person’s row, press the hours under Unscheduled. The Total row’s figure does the same for everyone on screen. The figure is a button only where a person has hours above 0; epic, space and role rows have none.
The dialog, Plan unscheduled work, lists the person’s work items with no dates and no sprint. Each has:
- Plan, ticked: whether to set its dates.
- Work item, Person and Remaining.
- A suggested Start date and Due date.
Under each person a grey line says which days their work fills, such as “Fills Ada Isadora’s days, 9–15 Nov, at their 8h a day”.
How the dates are suggested
For each person Workline takes their work items in order of priority, the highest first, then by Rank in Jira, and gives each the earliest working days from today on that still have room: a day’s hours less what is already planned and booked, at the person’s own hours a day, with holidays and time off left out. It looks at most 26 weeks ahead.
- A work item that does not fit in 26 weeks is named and takes no dates.
- A work item with no remaining estimate is named: there is nothing to place.
- In story points, the dates come from the remaining estimate, else from the points over the person’s pace; a work item with points and neither is named.
The suggestion is a place to start. Change any date, or untick a work item to leave it out. A Due date cannot be before its Start date.
Apply
Apply writes the Start date and Due date of every ticked work item to Jira, as you: Jira’s permissions decide, and its history names you. If Jira refuses one, the dialog shows Jira’s own sentence for that work item and sets the rest. Where the site has no Start date field Workline can write, only the Due date is set, and the dialog says so.
Nothing is written before Apply, and Cancel writes nothing. Apply sets dates and nothing else: never an estimate, never an assignee. After it the plan reads Jira again and the work sits in its weeks.
After
A work item that now has dates is planned like any other: see The plan. To hand it to someone else instead, use Move work. The permission Apply needs is on What is stored.
