A client timesheet PDF from Jira worklogs
Checked against Atlassian’s documentation on 3 November 2026.
A client who pays by the hour wants to see the hours: which work, how many, at what rate. Jira has the worklogs and no document to send. This page shows what Jira’s own export gives you for a client, where it stops, then what Logline does.
What Jira does by itself
- A search finds the client’s work items.
project = ACME AND worklogDate >= 2026-09-01 AND worklogDate <= 2026-09-30lists the work items with time logged in September. - Export from the results gives a CSV or an Excel file. The current fields export is one row per work item; all fields adds the worklogs as Log Work columns, one cell each, in seconds (Export Jira worklogs to Excel shows how to split them).
- The work item view shows each worklog under Activity › Work log, to read or screenshot one work item at a time.
Where it stops:
- The hours are all-time. A work item’s Time spent is its whole history, from every author, not the month you are billing.
- No rates. Jira has no hourly rate, so hours times rate is a spreadsheet step.
- No document. What reaches the client is a spreadsheet you format, check and turn into a PDF each month.
With Logline
Logline is our app. With billable time and hourly rates set once by a Jira admin (Choose what is billable, Set hourly rates), a report for one client and one month has a Download menu with a PDF item, on the line with Period and Show report. The steps are in Send a timesheet PDF.
The PDF holds:
- the client, or the report’s name, the period, your Jira site and the day it was made;
- the billable hours, the rate or rates and the amount;
- one line per work item and rate, with its hours, rate and amount, and the total;
- in the Worklogs view, each line’s worklogs under it, oldest first, with the author and the comment when the view shows them.
The client is the row a work item sits under when the Timesheet’s rows are spaces, epics or a field such as Client; otherwise it is the report’s name. Time that is not billable and cost are never in it. Pages are A4, numbered, with the header row repeated.
A worked example: the Acme Website space has a rate of 150 an hour, and 24 billable hours are logged in September. The PDF for September shows 24 hours, the rate and 3,600 as the amount, with a line for each work item behind the total. An hour in an internal space the rule takes out is not in it.
The file is built in your browser, and nothing is sent anywhere: you send the PDF yourself, with your invoice. Letters the PDF’s font cannot draw, such as ā or ł, print without their accent, and a line at the end says so; the Excel and CSV files keep every character.
The same lines can go into an accounting tool: see Jira hours into Xero or QuickBooks invoices. Every setting is in Settings. More on the Logline home page.
