Free Jira timesheet plugin: JQL, export or an app
Checked on 6 November 2026 against Atlassian’s documentation and a Community thread.
A free Jira timesheet plugin, as the search has it, is an app from the Marketplace; Jira alone gives a free timesheet for a one-off figure, and not for a monthly one. This page shows what Jira gives for nothing and where each tool stops, then what Logline gives, free for up to 10 users.
What Jira gives for nothing
- A search by worklog date. JQL’s
worklogDatefinds “work items with work logged on a specific date”, such asworklogDate >= startOfWeek()(Atlassian, JQL fields);worklogAuthornarrows it to a person. It returns work items, so the Time Spent beside each is its all-time total, and a work item with more than 1,000 worklogs is searched only on the most recent ones. - An export. The search results export to CSV, up to 10,000 work items at a time (Atlassian, export over 10,000 work items, updated July 2026). The date in the file can be the day a worklog was entered, not the day it was logged for (JRACLOUD-77926, unresolved, read 6 November 2026). Export Jira worklogs to Excel shows the steps and the checks.
- Dashboard gadgets and the Time tracking report. The Time tracking report compares original and current estimates (Atlassian). Atlassian’s own page on worklogs per person says there is “no existing native way to achieve this using JQL or Dashboard Gadgets” (Atlassian knowledge base), and offers a script instead.
So Jira has no report of hours per person per period: a feature request for one, JRACLOUD-97253, is unresolved. A Community asker, in November 2024: “I want a dashboard with timespent by user but jql only get all time by issue. So Is possible without plugins?” (Community). The answer there: use the REST API and write your own code, or export to CSV and build the report in a spreadsheet.
With Logline
Logline is our app. It is free for sites with up to 10 Jira users, with every feature. Above that it is billed per user by Atlassian, after a 30-day trial; the Pricing tab of its Marketplace listing gives the cost for your site.
- Open Apps › Logline and pick Last week, Last month or a custom range in Period.
- Put Rows on Person, with Per on Auto, for a person’s hours per day or week.
- Under Whose time, pick a Jira group and Show report: Gaps and Expected switch on, marking the days nobody logged and each person’s total against the hours expected.
- Download takes the table as Excel or CSV, or as a PDF timesheet.
It changes nothing in Jira and reads Jira’s own worklogs. What it does not do: timers or approvals, and it only reads, so people log time in Jira as they do today (Log time on a work item).
A weekly Jira timesheet for your team walks through the team view, and Find Logline in Jira shows where everything is. More on the Logline home page.
